Social Relevance of AnansiĪnsani stories were part of the oral tradition, and Ansani himself was sometimes known as the god of stories. In several of his stories, Ansani has a family that includes a wife named Okonore Yaa, several sons, and a beloved daughter named Anansewa. He is depicted in many ways, and is sometimes seen as a human man with spider-like features. Anansi has many different names such as Ananse, Ba Anansi, Kompa Nanzi, and Aunt Nancy to name a few. These stories have been passed from Ghana all over to The West Indies, Jamaica, Aruba, and Bonaire. Tales about spiders have been found in West Africa for many years, but the Anansi stories are the most popular, as the word “Anansi” is the Akan word for “spider”. But if I compare this to most other HRs I've read lately, it may deserve 6 stars. I gave it 5 stars because it deserves more than 4, although it didn't give me that extra thrill that Chase's classic Lord of Scoundrels did long ago. ![]() This is not, however, a 5-star book for me. It's also a book with a lovely hero, not the usual jerk I've been finding lately in HRs. I wouldn't read this book before the previous ones though it would still be good but the depth of story will be lost. I cannot recommend this range of books more. When reading the previous books it was totally a page-turner and this book was no different. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting? The climax on Demonreach or the ball in Winter. The story arc through all of the books is engrossing and imaginative and the developments in this story are great and shocking. The audio book was great, very involving narration and the book is the usual blend of comedy, action, loveable characters and wonderful storytelling. Cold Days is much closer to the good old days. ![]() "Changes" was one of my favourites but I was disappointed by "Ghost Story". I have read all of the Dresden files and loved most of them. In 1899, Machen was a man in “dreadful misery and desolation and dereliction of the soul”. For an introduction in his own words, you can read his “ A Resume of My Thought” which sketches out his project in outline (available at the Ignatius Insight website). However, it does not go into the details of his biography (including his time with the Jesuits, interaction with Karl Barth or training in German literature), nor does it mention his many other books (including works on prayer, anxiety, Mary, truth, the atonement, Maximus, Christian universalism and many other topics). ![]() If you are a semi-regular reader of my blog, you may have already asked yourself this important question! Being able to develop characters that are so different and yet so perfect for each other is not only a challenge, but it’s also one wickedly wild ride.
